Pre-Enroll
"Every artist was first an amateur." -Ralph Waldo Emerson
This course is designed to introduce general drawing principles and concepts to the beginner artist. This is a 'go at your own pace' format, but it's highly recommended that you try to complete one lesson a week. There will be drawing exercises before each lesson to help you warm up quickly.
There are 7 lessons in this course and 2 portfolio reviews (1 in the middle and 1 at the end) in the Basic Course, or 7 portfolio reviews (1 after each lesson) in the Premium Course. In these reviews, we'll go over how you did in your lessons and I'll offer any help or suggestions about your progress.
Each lesson has a clear set of simple instructions as well as examples to show you what to do - and what not to do.
"Learn the rules like a pro so you can break them like an artist." -Pablo Picasso
There will also be links inside each lesson description that will take you to a Pinterest board with photos I've hand picked for you to use as a reference. You also have the option to draw from your own photos or still life, and I have instructions for that as well.
The first half of the course consists of 4 projects to get you familiar with your tools and to train your eyes and hand to 'Draw what you see, not what you think you see'.
The second half of the course will put those new skills into practice, and you'll create 3 pieces you can frame, give to a loved one, display in your home, or sell!
I cant wait to see you inside the course! Sign up before July 15th for a special Early Bird price and to be added into the drawing for free art supplies.
Sign up by July 15th for special price discounts. Course opens August 1st.
Your Instructor
I'm an Alaska Native Artist and studied Fine Art at the University of Alaska Anchorage (2005-2009). I taught art through the Anchorage School District for a year before moving across the country to Richmond, Virginia in 2010.
I love the technicality of art, and I believe that you should know the rules of art if you want to break the rules. I also love realism and I will constantly be trying to achieve it in my own work. However, I really appreciate and admire artists who are able to create a world of their own through their art. To me, an artist is someone who knows how to make art 'the right way' and then chooses to make art their way.
